Ven. Galgedar Prajnananda Mahathero
It is with deep regret we like to inform the sad demise of Ven. Galgedar Prajnananda Mahathero, Head of Lucknow Buddha Vihara and Trustee of MBSI, in Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University Hospital on Thursday, 30 November 2017 morning at the age of 89 years. Ven. Prajnananda came to India at the age of 13 from Sri Lanka. He was disciple of Ven. Bodhananda Maha Thero, founder of the Lucknow Buddha Vihara. He was youngest among the six monks who had initiated Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar into Buddhism on 14th October 1956. He was only monk living who played important role in that ceremony. President of India, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ministers, Former Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, and many dignitaries and monks visited Lucknow to pay their homage to the departed soul. On 17 December 2017 a long procession started with the cortege from the Lucknow Buddha Vihara to reach Dr. Ambedkar Privartan Prateek Sthal, and then proceed for Shravasthi where cremation took place on 18 December afternoon at Chinese Buddha Vihara with state honour. The function was attended by Ven. P Seewalee Thero, General Secretary and Bhikkhu in Charge of various centres, monks, dignitaries. We pay our profoundest homage to the noble soul.
Ven. Dr. Julampitiya Gyanaratana
With profound grief we want to inform that Ven. Dr. Julampitiya Gyanaratana Maha Thero, founder of Sri Lanka Vihara in Sankisa near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and a Life Member of MBSI passed away on 28 March 2018 afternoon. He was suffering for last two years of various old age problems and was under medical treatment. 
The Vihara established by him gave tremendous support to the visiting pilgrims from various countries and helped the local people through social and charitable activities. We record our deep condolence to his noble memory.
